Gentrification is a big problem here in Los Cabos where I have lived full time for over 13 years. Gringos & capital discover paradise & ruin it. For years the normal overheard conversation were, “ Everything is much cheaper here in Mexico. We bought our property just 5 years ago at a cost of $$$ AND NOW it’s worth $$$$$$$$$$. Places my girl friend & her family camped at as a child are gated!!! You can’t even go to through the gates to buy a meal or drink. The Capitalist have to fence it, Gate it, build, rent it, sell it, & always break the federal law by denying access to the public. Stick a fork in it>It’s done!!!

I’m waiting for my flight from LAX to Guadalajara. Enjoyed your piece. The first thing that comes to mind is the artist community in Ajijic. That could be painting, pottery or singing. For those people a second chance to sing at Lake Chapala society open mic versus those of us that were able to follow our dreams to Los Angeles in our 20’s. Best to all.

I remember walking into a charming rusticMexican style building with an interior courtyard that was our hotel.I have always wondered if it was still there. The lake was very receded at that time and there was worry about it. Unfortunately that is all I remember except that I really liked it.I have never been back even though I have been to Mexico many times over the years and have owned a home in Sayulita for for 16 years.

There are too many articles like this boosting of Lake Chapalas praises but u have lived here for over ten years like I have you know there can be too much of a good thing. The cost of living is skyrocketing and the average Mexican can’t afford to live here we’ll like we do!!
