If we upgrade our labor pool, foreign companies will be drawn to Mexico.

Comments like the below I think are a good sign of strategic thinking not just ideological bombast:

He also said that Mexico shouldn’t wait around “to see who comes,” but rather “go after the companies we’re interested in having [here].”

Mexico has to be very careful working with China. China will make big offers to get their feet in the door. They will lay out an economic program that looks great on “paper” but that’s their “bate”. Once they get their foot in the door, China will slowly start taking over. China is a country that Mexico simply can’t trust no matter how “sweet” they make the relationship.

Far more important, in my opinion, is withdrawing from China addiction.

With my sense of history, it would be the Fifth Transformation. I think that México underappreciates the significance of its victory over tripartite imperialism of France, Spain, and England in the 19th century. I would call that weighty victory the 2nd Transformation. Now, <> México needs to avoid selling itself into an imperialist colony and avoid the mistakes that the U.S.A. made/makes on that path.

The flip side of this <> is the precipitating unilateral decision of a narco-State or failed-State that allowed Mexican sovereignty and USA sovereignty to be usurped by thug parasites.

One of the biggest barriers is Trumpian xenophobia. México in my lifetime has gone far to control its population growth and migration. However, through México as a conduit, there continues to be unacceptably high immigration by those foreign to México. I believe that should immigration be acceptably controlled (I’m not sure that even Trump can do that) there will be much more openness to Mexican labor in the USA esp. where the labor can continue to live in much cheaper México.

Maybe the peso will rise again soon.
